This being a large movement, there are bound to be wicked awesome examples.... and ones that just fall flat on their face. I propose that we have a thread devoted to the latter :3

THIS. This is the type of thing that infuriates the ever-loving shit out of me. It's a fucking sub-genre, not a lifestyle. Would you say the Noir Movement? The Brainless Teen Comedy Movement? FUCK.

LOL, you must live in a cave. It was a sub genre when it was an un-named stylistic approach used in the entertainment industries. Nowadays steampunk isn't just a sub-genre, It's THE sub genre. Movie makers, authors, and music artists work within the confines of their definitions of steampunk instead of just borrowing some cogwheels and top hats for an interesting effect. Even professional clothing designers are paying attention to steampunk trends; granted that tweed jackets and bowlers are far from fashionable. However, classic designs such as corsets, tailcoats, vests, stripes, pinstripe clothing, are all rising fashions following the "vintage" style of dress which is strongly perpetuated by steampunks.

All fine and dandy, but if this trendy bullshit is as influetial as you claim, why aren't people producing good books/movies/etc? I Eris knows if I could write worth a damn I'd do it myself.

They are, you fucking mainstream hipster. Look, if you stop watching Disney movies and fox television for 5 minutes you'll find that steampunk literature dates back to 1986 and it's source literature goes back to the 1700's. I'm no going to even get into the number of movies and series produced which span the gauntlet from Anime to feature film. Obviously you're heads to far up your own ass actually find these things so i would suggest you lurk moar you newfag.

I'm sorry but he's right, Steampunk is not a movement, it's a sub-genre.
Cyberpunk on the other hand is a movement as it fits with the evolution of our society.

Sorry for you, but I wasn't trolling at all.
Plus it seems that you are alone acknowledging steampunk as a movement.

Oh my, OP here. I used the wrong word, steampunk is more of a genre than a full-on "movement" like cyberpunk was. Whoops!

>> No.1463

I'm afraid I agree.
cyberpunk is a thing of the past. It was fun while it lasted.
I have no problem with cyberfags clinging to the memories of what was once theirs. I do have a problem with them whining all over the better parts of the inter-tubes!
