Egads! What a monster!
Interesting. This thread makes me think. Are there any alternative modes of transportation that aren't explored very often in steampunk literature? For some reason elephant seems to be one of these. I mean, if we're shooting for Neo-Victoriana here, then the Indian Rajahs and their elephant steeds would be right up there with monocycles and airships... Just perhaps slightly less mobile and more anachronistic, but very much of the time period.
Nobody curious?
Is this a result of "brb going to the moon"?
Something like that

sup. I'm new here. Why is this board called "Steampunk" when it's blatantly obvious most of you are here only because you have victorian clothing fetish? And not the good, sexual kind, the bad let's-dress-in-ridiculous-impractical-clothes-because-it-makes-us-so-alternative kind. Now I know that Steampunk is pretty much obligatory to take place during Victorian era, but that is only because its when industrial revolution took place, and that's what Steampunk is about - industrial revolution, technology, inventions, and either pollution/semi-slavery/suffering of lower classes(for low Steampunk) or adventure/flying castles/hero mavericks(for high Steampunk).

/r/ any artist out there to make a picture of an automata troll. Seriously, did you scroll down on the page, or did you even bother to look?

I think there is only one or two threads here devoted to fashion. I'm thinking you didn't actually read anything here and just started posting. In fact, one of the fashion threads has a very good discussion on the Steampunk genre. I highly recommend you read it.
hey guys. I need some photos of steam punk and post apocalyptic girls.
what are "girls"?
females ...
you may wish to check your local kitchen for some.
post-apocalyptic girls are dead
I move that this thread be purged. Though the original intent may have merits the thread has digressed terribly

Okay, here's a question for discussion. What was your introduction to steampunk/alternate history/neo-Victoriana as a genre? For me it was a combination of growing up watching reruns of Wild Wild West and discovering Dame Darcy's comic Meat Cake when Fantagraphics picked it up in the early '90s. Also getting into Lovecraft added to it a bit, with all the historical pastiches people have written involving the Mythos.Anyone else?

The Vision of Escaflowne. D: I know
probably Final Fantasy 6, very steampunk game.
Also I should mention Discworld, while not my first Steampunk it definitely is the most prominent.
Good gravy, I can't pinpoint it exactly, but I think it must have been all those Vern adaptations. Mysterious Island pushes ahead in my mind
studing victorian history at school, back to the future part 3 and discworld mainly. a general fascination with steam-driven technology probably helped.
>>224What's wrong with Escaflowne? It's not bad Not amazing, but then how many truly "amazing" pieces of cinema or television are there?

While I was vaguely aware of Victorian "scientific romance", the thing that made me sit up and take notice of the genre was the Castle Falkenstein RPG by Mike Pondsmith. As a setting, it's as much Grimms' Fairy Tales as it is steampunk, but it was the presentation of the Victorian mindset in regards to style, manners, and old-fashioned class that really charmed me.
Well, I grew up with my parent's owning an antique shop, and I always liked things that whirred and clicked. The amount of clocks I took apart and (attempted) to put back together would astound. And later when a few of my friends got into fashion, I started looking for something with elegance to it. So Victorian era clothing, and then it just went from there.Steamboy and Sakura Taisen helped as well.

Mainspringby Jay Lake. It isn't exactly good, and possibly even a bit generic, but it's a fun adventure story if you're an enthusiast.
>>276It's a great concept, but sadly rather horrific excecution. I really didn't enjoy the near furry sex.
