Is Bioshock dieselpunk?

>> No.2

It very well may be.

>> No.3

I wouldnt say it is. I woulds say its still steampunk

>> No.4

I really have to disagree with Mr Wanderlock.
i'd say that it was the perfect example of Dieselpunk - everything is dripping with neo-40's stylings (not to mention blood and seawater) that it's pretty much the epitomy of the genre for me.

>> No.5

I'd say it is a mixture of Dieselpunk and to lesser extent Biopunk.
The overall setting of the game seems to represent more of a late 20s to 40s era (modified ofc). Certain elements like Cinema (posters), neon signs, and the use of art deco point more towards Dieselpunk. Also certain elements of Steampunk, mainly gearwheels are absent. The look is too sleek for Steampunk.

Biopunk is also partially represented by the Adam plasmids.

I never saw the Bioshock-steampunk connection. So much of the game is based on the technology, industrialism, design, and ideologies of 1920s-1940, that it has a whole different "feel" from steampunk. Dieselpunk is the best term I've heard to describe the setting so far.

Dieselpunk or kinda retro-futuristic in a way I'd suppose. It's at an odd intersection.

>> No.40

It's also a bit of Biopunk.

It was hard for me to determine if this belonged here or in retrofuturism. Feel free to post your miscellaneous apparatus in this thread...
