I loved it. Any thoughts?Who would you cast in a movie?
From Wikipedia:Idoru is the second book in William Gibson's Bridge trilogy. Idoru is a science-fiction novel set in a postmodern, dystopian, cyberpunk future. The main character, Colin Laney has a talent for identifying nodal points, analogous to Gibson's own:Laney’s node-spotter function [from Idoru] is some sort of metaphor for whatever it is that I actually do. There are bits of the literal future right here, right now, if you know how to look for them. Although I can’t tell you how; it’s a non-rational process. As of 2006, an anime adaptation of Idoru is rumored to be in the early stages of development

I don't see Laney as the main character though. He's a supporting sub-plot to the more interesting story of the fanclub that meet online like in some kind of WoW environment. The band they worship has shades of the Beatles and now that I think on it, remind me of the Gorillaz. Then there's Idoru, who has more in common with the Gorillaz concept. She's a complete construct (All j-pop are over produced images anyway) made of CG and Label hype. I think Minmay from Robotech, or Lily Chou-Chou. The book did a good job of predicting trends, like Laney's Matrix reading like talent, and the teen peer groups that meet online in all sorts of glamouized semi-anonymous way. Zona Rosa was a cool bit.I would want only Sotashi Kon to make this anime, otherwise it would be a bad idea
I believe the band is supposed to be a U2 'level' band. a band old enough that the singer is much older than the girls that worship his 'forever young face' and that's why her mom dislikes her fan obsession. Also the band is supposed to have been popular enough that the 'new media' can't really tear down their established celebrity.
Shiina Ringo as Idoru, yeszno?
Maybe.
Of all of Gibson's work, i was the most bored with Idoru.
