Mrs. Donkinnure, may I ask for your assistance? I've undertaken a similar project as you have, the telephone mic one. I've connected the two wires from the microphone with two wires from the jack, secured it all with isolating tape, plugged it into my computer and was not surprised at all when I figured out it did nothing; what am I missing? As far as I know the telephone was still in working order, even thought it was Yugoslavian.

Okay, but sorry every time I see a Lain thread I have a good laugh. Everyone praises it for it being some kind of postmodern masterpiece, but I've seen it enough times to know it's just one of the best jokes ever made. It is a constant punchline. I have only watched it in Japanese, and laughed all the way through it... I don't even want to try the english dub.
Examples:
*DARTH VADER's head explaining to lain, while she is in a BEAR SUIT, that "Everything is a prophesy!"
*That one kid asks Lain to go out with him, even though he is like 8 years old, kisses her, then grabs her arm and makes it dirty, says "Oh shit!" and runs away.
*The montages about dolphins.
*An entire 2/3 of an episode that is just unrelated parts of the show with a rock ballad playing in the background.
*(my all time favorite) When lain is doing something in a bear suit upstairs, her parents are downstairs ready to eat dinner. Her mom starts eating rice, and then... (see image) for about 5 seconds, eats more rice, then makes out with Lain's dad. It then zooms out to show lain's sister talking "on the phone" (her hand) but going "ba ba aba abbababba bababa bub u abbaba".

Just a few examples but seriously Lain is a riot.

I use linux while I'm in IRC, so for a client I use BitchX. if you are on Windows the typical client is mIRC. I don't recommend it though. Pidgin is an IM client that supports almost every network and has IRC functionality that does a good job. If you are on Mac, I believe iChat can do IRC also. Firefox has an IRC plugin called ChatZilla. A google search should yield useful results.

Message me in the channel with some contact info like email or AIM screenname and I'll start building a list of interested parties. Once we have a few people we can discus character creation, play times, etc.

Is anyone actually interested? I've been sitting in that channel for two weeks now.

we played a full campaign in this that ended with us in city 17 and me killing gordon and stealing his gravity gun. I love stoners.
